Question

Howdy-My heater keeps cycling on and off

Hello--I had a service guy out last year to fix this heater and everything went well through that winter. Now when i turn it on, it heats well but keeps cycling on and off every 5 minutes or so. I took the cover off thermostat on wall and the contacts seem to be working just fine. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks, Jack
oh yeah, its electric not gas

What stat do you have? Could be the heat anticipator, or a limit tripping due to a dirty air filter or dirty evaporator coil. Do you have a supply air register above the stat?

Howdy-My heater keeps cycling on and off

hey, thanks a lot for taking the time

I will try and give the info you request--obviously i am not to familiar w hvac

it is an intertherm unit in a 2004 model trailer house. It has the ac unit outside the trailer and the blower (I had the blower replaced last summer--$$$) and the heater part in a closet by the kitchen---no, there is no supply by thrmostat (you mean a vent that might be blowing on it affecting its temp reading? no, none of that)

also, being its a trailer home, the thermostat is the cheap, spring type

i tried adjusting the anticipator to no avail-----also, if i cannot fix it myself, is it okay to run it some until service man gets out here? it stays on, working well, for about three minutes at a time with thirty second intervals (+/-)

the evaporator coil is the exposed copper tubing right?

thanks much, jack

It is a bit hard and stressful for the elements to do that. Go to HDepot and pickup a Honeywell Focus or Vision Pro programmable thermostat. Make sure you turn off power and label the wires on the old one B4 removing them. Should have R W Y G terminals. Install new tstat and READ the programming info. Have to set it for electric heat. Not rocket science. You can DIY.
How far is Houston from Aubrey? LOL
Good Luck

Those spring ones were never very accurate to start with. It is possible one of your sequencers is drawing a bit too much current and overloading the anticipator. I doubt it but it is possible. Should not affect the electronic type. Electric furnaces should be checked once a year to make sure all the sequencers and elements are working properly and for loose connections.
