how to set up dryer hose

Just changed the dryer cord. Now trying to figure out the dryer hose.

I only have an inch of space between the wall and the vent. How can I install a hose? Do I need to install a hose?

The dryer vent goes directly outside through the wall.

Please help. If I do indeed need the vent can I cut it really short. There is very little space.

Obviously you will need to cut back some of the ducting comin form the outley vent in the wall and transition it to the drier via metal flexible duct.
