How often to drain my hyrdonic system

How often (if at all) should I drain all the water out of my hydronic system?

Thanks

Is this a steam or hot water system? Steam should be "blown down" once every couple of weeks. If you have a hot water system you should not have to bleed the system if you have a fill valve ( aka presure reducing valve ) and the system is sealed with no leaks.

If it is water heat, best not to drain it at all. Fresh water is the enemy and the chemicals in city water, or minerals in well ater will hasten the demise of your system. Best to leave it.

this is a hot water system. i guess at the end of the day, i'm not sure how well sealed the system is.. i bought the house 3 years ago, and the system had been in place for about 20 years prior to that.

Your boiler should not need to be bleed except when it has to be serviced. You shouldnt keep adding water.
