How much should I expect to pay to retrofit gas heat into an all-electric home?
I have a two-story 2600 square foot house with electric ceiling heat. It does currently have central air upstairs and down. The upstairs air unit is located in the attic, the downstairs is a conventional air handler (looks like a furnace, but is only a/c) in the basement.
The house has no gas service currently, but it is available as I live in a city.
I live in Northern Indiana, so heat is a big need here. My electric bills currently average out to $240 a month, year round.
I'm trying to figure out if it makes economic sense to install gas heat - the upstairs air unit is nearly 50 years old so I'll probably need to replace it soon anyway with a modern unit.
