I can usually replace them in about an hour or so.

OH! You meant, how long will a water heater last?

Well, it depends. I replace them when:

The water heater starts leaking.

OR

The water heater doesn't heat water anymore.

Depending on the quality of your unit and the water in your home, that can be from about 5 to 20 years.
