How to make room for humidifier

Hello all-
I am having installed a heat pump and air handler.
The present AH has the return plenum and a flexible duct inside a space in the hallway wall. It can't be backed up any. The other end of AH 'T's' into the main duct. I want to make enough space so I can put a bypass humidifier in the plenums, but the new AH is about 3.75 longer than the old. What is the best way to install this to give me room, that won't make the system less efficient? What are my options?
This is a horizontal mount, against the joists in the crawl space.

If they are available in your area, General huimidifier makes a compact model that uses the same pad as the 1042LH bypass humidifier. If you are badly limited on space the other option would be a fan powered humidifier. Hope this helps with your problem.

I have chosen to put in a Desert Springs hum., the type with the plastic rotating disks, because of my hard well water. It is 12" wide and the kind that the unit fits right into the return duct or plenum, the flex hose goes to the supply duct or plenum. My problrm is I won't have much if any room to attach it unless I modify something, and I'm not sure what to change/modify.
