How far down will basement duct work drop my ceiling?

I currently have just over 9' from the concrete floor to the floor joists above in my basement. Every so often, I have large wooden beams for support. I'd like to just decorate them (paint, add finished wood, something) instead of lowering my ceiling almost a full 2 feet. My only major problem I'm seeing as I plan this out is the HVAC system. We have an input/output line already, but I'm not sure how large the duct work is going to be? Is there a such thing as low-profile duct work? The system will need to support about 800sqft (it's a zoned system, just not hooked up atm).

Thanks!

Consult with the company that did the original work, and then get a couple of other bids. Seven feet is too low, eight feet is better, nine is even a lot better in height from the floor.
