How easy/hard is it to build your own refrigerator?

What I need to do is cool a small box 2x2 feet and keep it cool at 32 degrees

I have certain requirements for the actual door frame, where it has to be insulated to my specific need.
Ive seen many $99 mini frigerators, and they will almost do, accept I need the door to be thinner, So i figure why not just do one myself.

I wonder how easy it would be to just insulate my own box, and cool it myself. Anyone?

Been there --
It would be more beneficial to me to pay alittle more, than
to try and possbly fail customizing an existing little $99 premade frige.

Can you (or anyone) either give links or list what parts would I need.
Thx

The equipment alone will be a chunk of change!

The equipment alone wil be a chunk of change - anyone ever heard of a second hand store, good will or craigslist.

You can make anything by tearing down existing things that people cant use, so thats not a concern to me.

i just need to know what items are needed then the step by step way to do it. I try to keep things simple, where others seem to over think things

what you can do is take an old refrigerator and tack out the controls and refrigeration parts and install it in the box you make. instead of a cold control I would use a Penn control for temperture. If it is a refrigerator that you want to make, the defrost will be on the off cycle of the unit. We have a local hosiptal that donates old small medicine units, ice machines and window unit heat pumps. I have the students gut them and then use the refrigereation componets to build what they want.

How easy/hard is it to build your own refrigerator?

Cmon guys, there is NO way a DIYer is going to build a fridge. As we know it uses a capillary tube and a LOT of knowledge to build it. LIke saying I can build a car out of a steel frame and coble some old parts to it. The only practical thing is to try to adapt a mini fridge. For our poster the refirigerant lines are custom fit around the shell etc and not flexible so the internals have to stay the same. just the outer shell could be made smaller and maybe not due to the fact that they spray insulation on and that is non removable. Then you have the electrical controls and wiring etc and if you mess with them and there is a fire your ins co and the fire inspector are going to become BEST friends with you.

I would say trying top make your own frig just because the door of a mini may look hard to adapt is over thinking things.

Maintaining 32F in the fridge. Off cycle defrost won't work.
