How Do you Test a Gas Valve on Furnace?
I have a Gas Furnace that is not working properly. The gas furnace is a Tempstar 5000 (model: NUGE075BG01).
The furnace has an Intermittent Pilot Ignition System. It has a Honeywell gas valve and a Honeywell continuous ignition module (model S8600M). Here is a picture of how the module looks: http://i39.tinypic.com/14t8ttx.jpg
Here is my furnace problem: The pilot lights, but main burner does not come on.
Generally, I know how to use a voltage meter.
How do I test the gas valve to see if the Main Valve is getting voltage? Where do I put the voltage meter probes? Am I testing for 24VAC (alternating current)?
Also, can this problem be caused by a dirty flame sensor?

Yes Jan it could be just a dirty flame sensor.You want to put your meter on VAC (volts alternating current)
put one of the leads on MV (main valve ) and the other on MV/PV this is your common terminal. If you read 24 vac then your valve is bad.......if you read anything other then 24 vac (less) then the control is not telling the valve to open and yes it may be the flame sensor.
