How can I prevent fuel oil from freezing

Hello All,

I live in Long Island, NY for the past 7 years and this Janurary is the first time i have had issues with my fuel oil freezing. My tank is located above ground and It has happened twice so far, and I would like to prevent this from happening again.

I was told that I need to add anti-freezing chemical to the tank, but a specific product was not given.

So my question for all is do you know of any proven products to prevent fuel oil from freezing up?

TIA

Ayuh,.... Yer Oilman will have it available, or order up #1 fuel oil to top off yer tank,...

#1 fuel oil is slightly thinner, with less wax, than #2 fuel oil,...

Standard operatin' procedure up here in the frozen north is to switch to #1 oil durin' the winter, in Any, 'n All outdoor fuel tanks,...

Btw,.... Have the filter changed at the same time, as ya might have a water in the fuel problem too,...

How can I prevent fuel oil from freezing

Thanks for all the replies

I buy oil COD, so I spoke with the company I purchase from. The customer service rep told me they only use #2 oil. this region rarely ever gets as cold as it is for a lengthy period of time.

Since this company is basically a middleman negotiating prices from various oil companies, they don't have any additives on hand.

anyone here used this product? http://www.thedieselstore.com/templa...=#.UuM5CHn0DPY

I am really wanting to switch to gas.........
