How can i check a capacitor with a meter

The other day I replaced a condenser fan motor and all that was wrong with the unit was the capacitor. How can I check the cap with my meter to check if it's good or not.

if your meter measures capacitance, that would be the easiest way. if not, discharge the capacitor and measure the resistance across it. the resistance should start out at 0 and go to infinity (usually 1 on the scale).

Method 1 uses a 1.1 megohm resistor from Radio Shack and a 9 v battery. And a clock!

Method 2, you need a doorbell transformer.

Method 3 uses a 4 W 120v incand. bulb and most nearly duplicates real world conditions.

What is the marked capacitance value in uF? What meter do you have?

Method 4 uses a cheapie analog ohmmeter and a clock.
