Hot Water Heater leaking from bottom valve & not heating up!?!! HELP

Hello,

My hot water heater this morning would not heat up a shower for me. So i went down to the garage to have a look and there was a small puddle developing under/around the heater. I was able to pinpoint the leaking to the drain valve on front at the base of the heater. But would this prevent my water from heating? is this an easy fix? please help

Hot Water Heater leaking from bottom valve & not heating up!?!! HELP

The heater---Is it gas or electric? How old?

The chances are the tank is leaking---it's likely the water is coming out around the valve opening---

The water may have extinguished the pilot light.

If it's leaking from the tank --the unit is dead.----If the drain valve is the cause, you might get lucky and be able to unscrew the valve and replace it.-----Mike----

Might be a coincidence----the unit is still rather new---The valve---if the drip won't stop,go to the garden section of the store and get a hose cap. Just screw it over the valve---drip stopped.--Mike--
