hot water heat attic central air...hot basement in summer
I have a older ranch home from the 50's ...I have attic AC and in the summer the main floor is fine... nice and cool...but the basement gets hot. I have hot water heat but no air vents to the basemet. If I try to put in some vents to the upstairs would that help. Or should i just get a protiable ac unit

What is the temperature difference between the first floor and the basement in the summer?

if you could drop or catch a supply duct (flex down)and mount it on a wall furthest from the stairs going back up...then do the same with a return take off to the nearest on the upper floor from the basement OPPOSITE END you might relieve some of that heat.keep in mind the added supply will lessen the exsisting spaces cooling effect, and an added return pulling the heat load out of the basement will just add tothe load going back to the attic AC.might want to go the way of adding an inline fan to that supply into the basement
