Hooking up a hunter thermo from an analog carrier

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000105 EndHTML:0000003591 StartFragment:0000002291 EndFragment:0000003555

I did a search, but didn't see my problem.

I just bought a Hunter set and save 44155C. I am selling my condo and this is really for eye candy. There is an old carrier thermostat hooked up. (the one with mercury inside the glass vials). I have more wires than the hunter thermo wants. Hunter wants a RH/R/VR/4 (I assume that is my read wire. An RC/VC. I can't find a wire that corresponds to that one. Y/C/M/O. That is my yellow wire. W/H/B I have a white wire that says w2. G/F. I have a green wire. Y1. I don't have anything for that one. I have a single stage heat pump.

Here are the wires and corresponding letters that go to my heat pump. Can you tell me which ones to hook up?

W2 = white
C = Blue
G = Green
R = Red
E = brown
O = Orange
Y = Yellow

Thanks and Cheers.

Does that Hunter say it is for heat pumps with electric auX heat?

Sounds like you bought the wrong thermostat.

Sir, you might be right. I do have emergency aux heat. Anything in the 50 dollar price range that can be bought at lowes, walmart or home depot that would work?

I am a DYI guy, but I don't know HVAC and I am probably maxing myself out by doing this HVAC project.

Cheers.

The stores you mentioned probably all sell Honeywell thermostats also.

Look for a Honeywell one that is listed as a heat pump thermostat. And supports aux heat.

Being a contractor. I am not familar with what the retail store model numbers are. So I can't tell you any mod number in paticular.

Quote from the hunter manual: "This thermostat will NOT control multi-stage heat pumps or 110/220 V baseboard electric heating systems."

You might be struggling to find a heat pump thermostat for $50 and they are not trivial to hook up as all the manufacturers of heatpumps and heatpump thermostats use different terminology! I'm not sure that the majority of potetial homebuyers will even notice the thermostat - your %50.00 might be better spent elsewhere.
