Honeywell Thermostat runs continuously

Installed a pretty basic Honeywell thermostat and once it reaches the set temperature the fan will not cut off on it's own. Its on auto. Turns off it you reduce the set temp by five or so degrees or if you reduce it by one and turn the switch to off, then
Back on to heat, My friend has the same thermostat with the same issue. Seems like a waste of energy. Could this be fixed?

Correct. Heat pump off, fan stays on, air feels cool, aux heat occasionally cuts on

Lets make sure it's not a problem in the furnace. Turn off power to the furnace. Remove the stat to expose the wire's and take R and G off the stat and twist them together. Turn the power back on. Fan should run, then separate the wire's and see if the fan stop's. Do you have electric strip's for back up heat or is it gas?

Passed that test, ran twisted together, cut off when pulled apart. Electric heat strips.

OK, it's in the stat. On the stat make sure function 6 is set on 9 and function 8 is set on 9.

Are you sure the heat pump isn't in defrost when you notice this.

I'll check when I get home. Out of curiosity if the white wire was unhooked from w, would the aux option be no longer an option? Like if i wanted to run only heat pump heat ? Or could i run the white wire just to Emergency heAt, no jumper to aux?

Yes and Yes. The aux heat will still come on during defrost however.
