I'm going to attempt to install a r8182d 1079 to replace an old r8182a.
Reason as follows: System works fine for a few cycles, then does not fire. A buzzing noise is coming from the r8182a. When the reset button is hit, the boiler fires up with no hesitation. I believe the contacts in the relay are bad. Sound right?
From reading the instructions it seems quite simple. Turn down thermostat, turn off power, shut off oil, drain boiler, remove old r8182a, place new bulb so it touches bottom of well, tighten well clamp on r8182d, reconnect all wiring as it was on the r8182a, set hi, low and diff it was, hit reset, turn power on, oil on, and raise temp on thermostat to call for heat. I'm a handy guy and can follow instructions well, is this something I should try to do?
Also, will I need to replace (or buy a adapter) the immersion well? If not I shouldn't have to drain the boiler, right?
Label every wire before you start(pics don't hurt either). No need to shut off water to or drain boiler. No need to shut off oil. Just kill power to the boiler, make sure all connections are clean and tight and you will be fine.......before you do anything hit the contacts with a little sandpaper and you will probably be fine till spring....good luck
