Question

Home oil boiler furnace

I am going to install a new home 0.8gph oil furnace boiler to replace the exisiting 53 year old Columbia boiler. So far I have had prices on a Utica steel boiler and a Burnham cast iron boiler. Any ideas on which is better, cast iron or steel, or which brand is better?

I think cast iron would last forever but might not be as efficient. I installed a "Slant fin" cast boiler with a standing pilot a few years ago on a rental property and love it. I've had it with $70 ignitors, (+ labor), that are scheduled to go out on Christmas morning. HS

There are a lot of factors that would have to be decided and thought out for a complete and thorough decision. However, with not much info provided I would lean towards the cast iron boiler.

Jmb, all boilers are just cans that heat water. You as a consumer should be looking at efficiency , warranty , price. Some are better than others but, come with a higher price as well. Personally I like Buderus and I am willing to pay for that level of boiler. You should just google the boilers and compare. You'll most likely get only personal opions on boiler here.
