Holly-General Narrowall 500

What seems to be a working wall furnace, about 40 years old, new thermostat, 'seals' and new pilot generator......
Seems that there are 2 burners, one pilot and one burner is not coming on as fast as it should.....after 3rd red-tag from gas company and tenants are cold....as cold as one can be in southern california, we want to get it to work correctly, safely for the tenants.....
no, not really wanting to replace it, as we plan to re-occupy the house in about 3 years, replace everything with heat pump system at that time...
have cleaned everything,
just wish that the gas company would list all the problems they see at once, rather than turning it off every few days...whine, whine...
anybody know what to do to get the 2 burners to work together?
i looked all over the 'net for a diagram, to see if there is something missing or something, without success

Are you kidding me? 40 years old and you want three more years out of it, talk about beating a dead horse. You probably needed new burners 5 years ago. Call a pro and get it fixed, if you can find one that doesn't just say replace it. Most gas company techs will red tag a unit twice their age if it doesn't work right the first time they try to fire it. With tennants safety in mind, do you blame them?

making it work

i guess i should thank you, since you are a member of the 'replace it if it blinks' society.........
well, our landfills are full of your garbage....
when a part will make it safe for our tenants and keep us from financial hardship in this depression era, why do you care?
why did you even bother to reply? i could get this kind of answer by standing on a street corner in some drug-laden slum...
we are responsible landlords.....making things safe and taking care of everything....not all are, but we are....and just asking for a bit of advice, not a harassment....

You do realize that the heat exchanger in this unit is made of sheetmetal? It has been expanded and contracted for 40 years. It had a life expectancy of 20 years and you've doubled that. It has surpassed it's good years and should have already been replaced. If it has been red tagged more than once you should have been prepaired for a replacement. It don't consider this depression era. Do you rent the place for free? No you charge rent and heat is a capitol improvement to a rental. So it's deductible. Being as you brought up the word slum....
