Is a higher voltage capacitor an advantage?

The 3.5 year old capacitor, 370v, 45/5𝜇F, on my Amana air conditioner is bad. One with the same capacitance rated for 440 volts is available for a bit more money. Is a cap rated for higher voltage likely to last longer? Thanks.

No, Just get American brand....no the $hit china ones

I have been unable to find one made in the US. Do you know of a source?

Whereabouts in Houston are you? I-10 @ Beltway (westside) myself. Go to any old Grainger and get whatever they have.

Or order online. http://fierychill.com/components/ele...rs/made-in-usa

A 440 volt one(used on a motor that calls for a 370 volt) will tend to run a little cooler then a 370 volt one.

Doc, I'm in the Montrose area near Waugh and W. Gray. The on-line Grainger catalog shows both the 370 and 440 volt caps are from China. Have you found the Grainger caps to be reliable? The US made caps from fierychill look very good except for the 4 day transit time or the additional cost of expedited delivery. Johnson Supply is near me on Studemont though I'm not sure they'll sell to me since I'm retired and no longer in the business. Do you know of Johnson?

Let me go check my truck and see if I have one. I have to come that way in a bit.

I'm not too picky as to where they're made, could really care less. I've never had one just die on me brand new. And we're not talking monetary amounts that'll break you either.

No, I don't use Grainger as I'm an actual hvac technician, everything I get comes from the actual dealer supply houses. Grainger simply sells to the public, dealer supply houses won't.

Let me go check.

Hello?

Doc Holliday 09-16-2012 12:57 PM

Johnson will not sell to you, no. I know all the Johnson locations and other various supply houses in Houston as well. None will sell to the public, none of the major retailers that is.

Grainger you can simply walk into to.

flanso 09-16-2012 03:05 PM

Doc, If you have one, I would be happy to buy from you.

Grainger had a 440 volt unit that I installed and everything works fine. Thanks everyone.
