high voltage a on secondary side of trans
I heard this could happen, but have never seen it. The only way I can see this happening is the secondary winding was touching the primary. The trans was used but it said good on it, so I didnt think about ohming it out. Has any one ever seen 100V on the secondary side of a 24V trans? And yes I took secondary side out of the circuit.

Sounds like you already have it figured out.

so does that mean you have seen this. Did it trash your fan relay? Im not sure why I just have a hard time believing this could happen.

Lucky it's only the relay you lost. Thermostat, circuit board etc. are all vulnerable to a line voltage surge.
