My Armstrong High efficiency furnace is making a high pitched sound. It kind of sounds like locusts. When I run the fan only, there is no sound. I can hear the sound coming from the inducer assembly. My questions is:
Is there anything in the inducer assembly that can be adjusted/lubricated or should I just replace it?
I see that the motor is detachable from the rest of the assembly. Does the whole assembly (black circular piece with a couple hoses and pipes attached) need to be replaced, or can just the motor portion (motor portion is by FASCO) be replaced?
Typically the inducer motors have sealed bearings. If the motor is squealing it is time for a new one. You can probably find a motor but getting the wheel off is almost impossible without damaging the wheel.
Inducers are usually sold as an entire assembly which makes it easier to replace.:santa:
I replaced the inducer. I believe I put everything back the way it was (pvc pipe, screws , electrical and 2 hoses), but it starts up but never produces heat. It shuts down and gives a code of "pressure switch open, should be closed" (3 flashes). Any ideas?
The smaller hole appears to go to the pressure switch. It is attached firmly to the middle right side of the inducer. The larger hose goes to the drain that eventually goes the floor. Both hoses are clear flexible plastic.
Doh! I didn't look carefully enough when I took the hoses off the old one. The small hose that goes to the pressure switch was on a thing that looked like a hose connector. I moved it to the other thing that looked like a hose connector and it works fine.
