THanks for the replies.

Carrier tech, whayt do you mean by deluxe trane? I am thinking of a trane but have not heard of a deluxe trane. Also, regarding the filter, I was leaning toward a Trion electroinc filter/cleaner. I was told about a u.v. light, but I thought it was more of a gimmick than anything... Can you elaborate. Living on a single income with kids, I am just trying to find the right fit and not be sold something that is not needed.

Regarding the rebates, does a company raise prices of furnaces when the rebates are offered? It seems a though it would be easy to do since there deosn't seem to be a published price - not until someone gives a quote.

Kyle, by deluxe I meant their variable speed 2 stage furnace with their 16or19 seer ac or heat pump.I would hope they would not raise the price at rebate time, we sure dont. I think my carrier rebates just ended. They are every spring and fall and for similar equipment as mentioned above it would have been 1100.00 which is a co-op between dealer and manufacturer. Also there is a federal tax credit this year for 95% furnaces and 16 seer ac up to 500.00. I don't know about 2008 ask your tax man. If I were you I would have a 2nd bid from another trane dealer or big name brand like carrier.I would hit web sites(www.carrier.com) trane ect.and look for factory authorized dealers. They have a direct conduit to the manufacturer so they are held to a higher standard, and they are not always more$$.Hopefully the salesman talked of a "company resume". Are the techs drug tested, background checks performed ect.? Does the company have 24 hour service, because they all break! Another problem that I'm hearing about involves the slow down in new housing.Companies that specialize in new construction are slow and trying to break into the retro fit market and some are turning out some very poor work.As far as the uv, I have one and like it but mine was probobly cheaper I wouldn't get electronic and uv,probobly overkill. At least get a thick hepa filter that is supposed to last 1or2 years. That's what I ,have coupled with the uv. I'm no expert on the trion and I thought there was a problem with the Trane clean effects, but I'm not sure. The top end equipment is much more about sound and comfort than necessity. You need to ask yourself how long will I be here and how much are my utilities? Also ask about a heat pump.We sell many and it gets cold here too.It is only a 800.00 add over ac here. But, if you get one,the variable speed furnace is the way to go,much warmer air.And that is one place where the carrier shines with the infinity system. In closing you probobly figured that I like name brands and the INSTALL IS VERY IMPORTANT.If I can be of further help let me know.
