Help will AC cooling
OK here is brain buster.

AC will cool the house with no issues when its set at 74 degrees. If i change it to 75 or higher it will not cool (it will be 80+ degrees in the house).

I replaced the thermostat this weekend and same issue. I really don't want another 600 bill. Has anyone had or seen this issue before.

If it cools to 74 or lower, then there is not a problem.

ha ha other than a 400 elec bill. It was set at 76 degrees forever

I want to set the thermostat back to 76 and it would be 76 in the house not 80 degrees

When you set it to 74, does it shut off, or does it run 24/7?

It runs 24/7

Your compressor is probably running too hot, and when you set it to 75 an d it shuts off, the compressor's internal thermal over load opens. And takes probably close tom 3 hours to cool down and close again.

Try cleaning the condense coil.

Ok makes little sense but why if I set it to 75 it never gets cold but on 74 its freezing

beenthere 08-28-2011 09:22 PM

Cause when you set it to 74, the condenser never shuts off. But at 75 it shuts off, and then doesn't restart after it shuts off for another 3 hours.

Yes, I'm making a wild guess. But its based on what little info you can/have provided.

I like it 72. At 72 my A/C has long run times. At 73 it doesn't feel very cool.

Ok I got it now I will try that thanks so much for the info

You might want to have a tech come out and check that charge.
