help switching thermostat--wire labels do not match

I am replacing a White-Rodgers 1F79 non-programmable thermostat with a Hunter Set & Save 44360 programmable thermostat.

The wiring labels on the old thermostat do not match up with the ones on the new thermostat, or the alternatives suggested in the new thermostat's setup guide.

The old (current) thermostat has these wires:
(top row)
W2--nothing attached
E--brown wire
O/B--orange wire
R--pink wire

(bottom row)
L--nothing attached
G--green wire
C--blue wire
Y--yellow wire

The new thermostat has connections for these wires:
RH
RC
G
Y/O
W/B
Y1

Can someone tell me the correct way to connect these?

Thank you!

I am no pro but it might help someone here to help you if you noted the kind of heating/cooling system you have.
These sites may be useful:
http://www.hvacmechanic.com/tstatwiring.htm
http://highperformancehvac.com/therm...ng-colors.html
http://www.toad.net/~jsmeenen/wiring.html
as they explains where each terminal goes from thermostat to the heating/cooling unit.
The wire color is not absolute; people can connect the wires however they want to so knowing what the wire is first connected to can help you decide where on your thermostat to connect it.
All suggest turning off electricity to the system before fiddling with the wiring (keeps the magic smoke away).
Good luck!

Well a couple of things. I am going to take a guess and say you have a heat pump with electric aux heat. If that is the case then the Hunter stat will not work, that model from what I see is for a single stage heat pump. That means it will only run your outdoor unit and it will not bring on you aux heat when needed. What you need is a Heat pump stat for 2 heat 1 cool.

Hunter is one of the lower brands sold at lowes for $30 or $40 bucks.
