Help! Fixed Window A/C Installation

Hey guys, I searched the internet and this site but didn't find any dedicated thread for the specific problem I'm having.

My sister is moving into a new apartment and we want to install and air conditioner for her but her window is fixed. It's about 18 inches in height (which leave 2-5 inches of a gap for most air conditioners) and there is no sliding opening above. It's just a set sized hole. Now I was looking for A/C's which would fit perfectly, mostly looking for 12K BTU ones with a height of 17 inches, but does anyone have any other decent ideas?

I'm assuming I should buy a piece of plywood that fits the window perfectly? Then cut a hole that fits the A/C perfectly? Drill the plywood to the fixed window, then put the A/C in that and bolt the AC to the plywood?

Any simple and easy fixes would be great! I'm not very handy so I'm kind of out of my depth. I will add pictures this weekend.

Google: portable air conditioner

A LOT quieter and easier to work with.

Check HDepots site, they sell them.

Casement unit.

They may be too high though. Many are 20 inches. Have to look for one that will fit.

You can find them and look for their specs on the internet.
