Question

HEIL gas furnace will not start.

This is a high efficiency propane furnace with AC. The AC works fine no problems there.

When the thermostat is calling for heat nothing happens. The inducer blower will not start which should be the first thing in the cycle.
I jumpered the inducer motor and it runs fine.
The transformer is ok also.
I changed out the control board with a new one but it didn't help.
This furnace has a Honeywell Smart Valve #SV9541.
Furnace model#N9MP2125J20P1

Any help or input would be very much apreaciated.

Is there propane in the tank? Hold the blower door switch closed, put one lead on C, or common, one lead on W, or heat. Do you have 24 volts when the thermostat calls for heat.

Sorry...at the terminal strip on the furnace.

There should be a low gas press. switch on the gas line. Is there continuity through it?

Yes there is plenty of propane in the tank, but someone who worked on this furnace before me removed the gas pressure switch from the furnace. I am not sure why and the owner did not know either and the guy can't be found as the company he worked for is out of business.
But since he did this is there any other sugestions.
Thanks for your interest. Please reply.

90% of the time its the honeywell smart valve that needs replace. these valves are famous for being faulty.

How about the 24 volt thing? Do you have 24 volts, at the furnace terminal strip, between W and common.

8 Ball, I am about 20 miles from the house where the furnace is located. I have not been back to check your sugestion. I do know that the transformer is putting out 24 volts though. As soon as I go there again I will check between w and c for 24volts when calling for heat. If 24v is there what should I check for next? Thanks.

HvacWiz, Is there any way to test the smart valve before I invest in one? Thanks

Dont forget to instal the low gas pressure switch, to remove a safety device is unacceptable. To know its gone, and do nothing about it is worse. Test all the safeties. High limit, press. switches...etc..

It sounds like your pressure switch is stuck closed. when the thermostat calls for heat, the first thing that the furnace checks for is to see if the pressure switch is open. if its not proven to be open, the furnace will not start. I have a copy of the service manual for your model furnace (n9mp2125j20p1) sequence of operation.

Thumbs up

HEIL gas furnace will not start.

I did not notice the date on the post, but I just wanted to add my experience today in case it helps someone. The furnace would not start, but I knew it had power to the distribution blower. I checked the connections to the control board. So I concentrated on the very simple mercury switch thermostat. Voltage checked out, but it was so cold, the mercury switch could not be disconnected by moving the sliding heat selector. I simply forced the spring loaded mercury to the off side for about a minute and released. The furnace started. I still don't understand since I did not spot any capacitor. But it was 3° and I was just happy it works.

Basically like I stated. I found this post while searching for an answer. I imagine someone else will also. Neither in this post or any other did I find the solution I posted. I tried to edit the post to make this clearer, yet I was unsuccessful. Most of the forums I found were similar in nature and most suggested costly attempts at substitution of parts. Mine is a simple, no cost solution. I have been able to keep my 19 year old Heil burning proficiently through advice and ideas on these forums and thank you all. But in general, my problems have mostly been inconsistent to replicate and usually amount to a rusting connector or a part that vibrated loose enough to lose ground. I hope thee ideas will help others.
