Heil Furnace - No primary ignition

Working on a Heil model NTGM075EGA2:

Flu vent blower comes on
Igniter starts
Pilot lights ( blue flame )
Main blower comes on

Main ignition never happens. I suspect there is an issue with the gas valve, but would like to exhaust all possibilities before I buy one.

Does the gas valve have numbers like SV****. If so, you have the infamous "Smart valve/idiot valve" and they are nothing but trouble. Try removing and replugging the wiring harnesses carefully into the valve and see if that works.

Gas valve SV9500M2674 .......... I guess that means lucky me.

Yep. It could also be that the pilot burner and flame sensor/igniter combo needs replacing. They get corroded and may not produce enough signal to open the valve. 95% of the time it is the idiot valve. How old is the furnace? There have been lots of problems with some of those furnaces and their heat exchangers cracking/popping the compression rings that hold them together. (Back in a hr, got to do a PM on the neighbors furnace).

Have previously replaced heat exchanger for cracking and broken "rivets". replaced sensor 2 seasons ago, other componets over the years. I figured it was time for the gas valve. This has been a pretty problematic system from the get go ( unit is about 15 yrs old ). Most every thing on the AC side has failed at one time or another also - pretty dissapointed in the Heil system.

15 yrs is very good for that valve. You can replace it or with the tax credits invest in a new higher efficiency unit. The newer Heils/ICP are better. I prefer Lennox.
