When turned ON - blower runs, Hot surface ignitor clicks to light the main (during this time you can see the pilot lights, a 1 inch blue flame is lit for a split second). Soon the blower runs and pilot is still clicking to light the main.

Tried so far:
- shutting off the main electrical and turning it back to reattempt
- shutting off the gas valve box off for 10 mins then turned it back on.

gas valve

flame sensor

control board

Is there any flash code on the board and a corresponding legend which tells you what the code stands for? Look for it on or in the service doors of the furnace.

This post confused me more then it told me what the problem was......1 st off hot surface ignitors dont click, they glow. And if your blower is running before the ignition, then thats the combustion blower (inducer motor). What i have gathered from this debacle of a explanation is that your main burners never light.......if thats correct then you have a spark ignition and the flame sensor needs to be cleaned or replaced.

probably an older unit with a S86 spark ignition. just enough flame signal to prove the burner and then the draft sucks on the pilot and drops it a bit till it starts sparking. will drop out permanently soon.

It does have the S86 spark ignition (not hot surface igniter) and something is shorting or wrong with the ignition module or the power to it. I hate to say it but that is one KNARLY very expensive and difficult unit to fix/keep running. The exhaust fan below the burners is VERY expensive and almost obsolete and lots of those units the burners are corroded/rotten/have holes in the sides and are obsolete where I am. There could be a dozen reasons that control is short cycling but I would have to be there to find out. Not a good furnace to spend $$ in IMO but it is repairable by an experienced Heil/ICP tech.

I have to take off for quite awhile now as my better half is picking up her new Honda CRV and I have to go to the dealer to learn all the bells and whistles of it. Fully loaded with NAVI system etc. Oh Joy!

@ Yuri, you are correct, the module is Hoenywell S86F HQ612919HW. I had this problem last winter season and this year when I turned it on it worked perfectly fine up until now.

@ kennzz05, the blower motor always been loud and squeaky. Since i've owned this home it always sounded like a rocket was going to be launched. But for the most part, the furnace is very clean.

The single metal pole in front of the flame pilot, that's it. This is going to be attached to the burners which you might have to pull out of the furnace to get to.

I looked at the manual and this unit does not have an flame sensor. I did however uninstall the pilot igniter sensor (which has a probe and hood, nothing else) and cleaned it. Which more looks like this http://www.southsidecontrol.com/acat...1305_2433.html
