Heater will not stay on

I'm glad I found this site, I have another issue going on now.

I have a 'Goodman' heater, and it sounds like it keeps restarting.

but if I look closer and listen, the fan is not stopping, but it sounds like the gas will not stay on...

You can see it light up, and hear some other noise, which sounds like a fan, but that is what keeps restarting, the pilot is on, but the fire only stays on for a few seconds.

I don't know how to test this thing, but here is what I have done:

1. I turn the temp. all the way down and the heater stops like it should.
2. I have turned the temp all the way up, but the fire will not stay on.

You can hear and see the pilot starts the fire, but it goes out...

or if I try and say it another way.

The fan blows fine, when it's time for the heater to start to work, the pilot should start the fire, it should get to the desired temp. and then the fan should blow thru the house. The one pipe that goes into the chimney should be too hot to touch.

It's not too hot to touch
the fire does not stay on long enough to build up to the desired temp to blow thru the house
yet the fan is not stopping.

Heater will not stay on

There's a metal rod, called a flame sensor, that sits in front of the left burner. Clean it.

Hey marty,

I kinda hi-jacked another thread. Got pics and stuff, if you want to read it

Goodman 6 flashes fails to light after fan

It's back to working now, but I really can't say how I so called fixed it.

all I did was remove the door, and it started working. Im scared to put the darn door back on.

Clean flame sensor/thermocouple like Marty advises.

You might try cleaning the vacume port for the flue pressure switch. It is fairly common for scale to build up in the small orifice on the induced draft blower housing. If cleaning the sensor doesn't fix your problem then the induced draft blower is the round blower connected to the flue pipe just inside the burner compartment. Turn off the power to the furnace and look for the rubber tube connected to the side of the blower. Remove that end of the hose and use a small piece of thermostate wire or something of equivilant size to push through the hole. Reconnect the tube and restart the furnace.
