Heater Vents

I am finishing my basement and want to bring the heater vents that are in the ceiling down to floor level. I bought some snap together duct work. it is round. i will transition to oval at the wall and bring it down from there.
My question is is there a trick to snapping the ducts together? I worked on one for about 30 min and still cant get it together right.

Heater Vents

place those parts which snap together next to each other and press down causing the round pipe to form a heart shape
if it still does not snap into place you may have to start at one end
