heater and a/c for garage

Is there such a unit I can install in my detached garage which I could use as air conditioner in the summer and heater in the winter?

Not sure where you could buy them but almost every motel room I have been has a unit like your describing.

It's called a heat pump.

I moved this to the heating and cooling section---

They make both heat pump versions and resistance heat only versions of this combo heat/AC unit.

ductless mini split heat pump or a ptac heat pump. They also make window units like this.

Excellent advice!

Thanks. The house I'm buying in Fredericksburg, VA area has a heat pump (to my regret). So it looks like I only need to connect it. That's good news.

You could use a mini split heat pump and make sure the garage is insulated real well. Straight electric heat in a garage is very expensive, been there already.
I aquired a fairly new 2 ton ICP gas pack that I installed on the roof for the garage and am happy with the results. I ran it mornings and evenings all last winter and our gas bill only jumped up 40 bucks.
Do you have gas access to the garage?

Hi Sammy:
Thanks for the info. The detached garage is a shell, concrete floor and lots of extra plugs and extra electric panel. Yes, my first job will be to insulate. I'm just happy I will have a roof over my car. As a DIY'er, I would like a more comfortable area to work, etc. I plan to add a whole house generator with a buried propane tank so maybe I could somehow make use of heating with the propane.
By the way, what is "ICP"?

Thanks, again!

ICP is Iternational Comfort Products, they make Tempstar, Comfortmaker, Heil etc. They are tied in with Carrier.
