heat wont come on with t-stat in auto

fan wont come on when t-stat on "auto" and in heat, but it does in cool. Unit will heat a little when t-stat fan switch "on". Have heard that the a/c compressor runs backwards for heat. Does not engage in heat.
The electric elements under fan do heat up.

I have an Intertherm a/c-heat pump unit.

Please help

Hi wahanks

Very seldom does a thermotat need to be replaced, but in your case it sounds like either the cooling anticipator is going out or the subbase is bad. Either way from your description you need a new thermostat. The ones I would reccomend to replace with are White Rogers 1F82-261 for programmable or 1F89-211 for a non programmable. Let us know if we can help further.

Good luck
Rusty
