heat pumps outside unit is broken.

I live in northern NJ and I have a Trane heat pump with Aux heat. My outside unit just stopped working and my AC guy says the compressor need to be change. What if I change the whole outside unit? Do I need to change the inside unit as well (the evaporator)? Since I am not able to afford a Trane outside unit I am thinking about getting a Goodman? It is compatible with my current inside units? Any suggestion is appreciated.
Nora.

Heat pumps are pretty touchy when it comes to indoor and outdoor coils matching. I'd stick a new compressor in the Trane before buying half a mismatched system.

If you want it to work right. need to also get a new AHRI rated matching indoor unit, or atleast a new indoor coil.
