Heat Pump thermostat wiring

Old thermostat used W2, Y, and O. All other wired are the same.
New thermostat has W1, W2, Y1, Y2 and O/B

I match the wire W2-W2, Y-Y1 (stage 1 cooling) and O to O/B.

The question is when I mount the wire O to O/B, it has the setting option in the new thermostat:

O/B terminal is energized for reversing valve in cooling.
O/B terminal is energized for reversing valve in heating.

Which one should I set it at?

Reverse in cooling.

Unless your unit is a Rheem or Rudd.

I'm curious why Rheem/RUUD does it the other way.

Don't know.

Funny thing is. On some of their commercial units. They energize it in cooling like everyone else.

I guess the only diff is, if you have a heat pump and you just want to cool with it, with most of them you could just jumper Y to O and it would never go to heating mode.
