Heat Pump Thermostat Wiring

Greetings! I am installing a new digital programmable thermostat. It is the Honeywell 6350. http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...llow&cId=PDIO1

I had my HVAC company here today for the winter inspection and they told me that the unit is a heat pump with 2 stage heat and 1 stage cool. The reverse valve is energized from heat. So, I have attached a photo of the wires with the current labeling. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the labeling because we bought this house recently. Could you please help me confirm the wiring labels first and then I can properly attach them to the new thermostat.

I posted this older topic awhile back (you guys helped me wire the downstairs thermostat). Thermostat Assistance Please.

If the wiring is exactly the same, just say so and I am good to go. The downstairs unit featured in the older forum topic was also a 2 stage heat and 1 stage cool. However, the reverse valve is energized from the cool. I was not sure if that would make a difference in the wire labels or the thermostat wire configuration.

Thanks so much!

DuBose Griffin

how did you label them? What terminals were they installed to on the old stat?

the old stat was not a compatible stat. it was this one: http://www.lowes.com/pd_356344-74493...ell&facetInfo=

The labels were there. I do not think I answered your question. I can give you more information or take more photos. I have looked at the wiring on the air handler in the attic and the outside unit. This unit is from 1994 and the wiring in both places is not really labeled. There are the typical yellow, red, and white wires, with the green wire present in the air handler in the attic. I can take more photos. The original stat that I removed is the attached photo. I am not sure what wire was inserted where because the labels do not match the stat exactly.

The wire labeled B which is the blue wire was never attached to anything. Neither was the white wire with no label. Neither was the red wire labeled W2. When the HVAC company came over today they said that the stat was not the right one for the unit and the heat was only being produced from the upstairs air handler and the outside unit was not turning on.

you need to find out what the blue (b) and red (W2) and white (unlabeled) wires at stat location are attached to.

In the unit outside and the air handler in the attic, there is no blue wire at all. Regardless, how can I figure this out. I can take a photo of each set of wires and post it. I could not really make sense of it when I looked at it. The other unit that you helped me with before had clearly labeled wires and terminals.

tell me what to do and I will do it.

Can you take a look at the question I just posted at the end of my old topic.

first photo with the fewer amount of wires is the outside (state003.jpg). the photo with the many wires is the inside (stat005.jpg).

For the inside wires maybe this will help.

Wire bundle one has two wires, one is red and the other is white. The white wire is coiled around the red wire and not attached to anything. The red wire in that bundle is attached to a red wire.

The other bundle has

yellow wire attached to a yellow wire
yellow wire attached to a yellow wire
blue wire attached to a white wire
white wire attached to a white wire
green wire attached to a black wire
red wire attached to a red wire
