heat pump question/moved from Florida

Just moved from Florida to North Carolina. House has two heat pump units 2.5 ton each and total sq ft. is 2900. Two story home. House has one Trane that operates biggest part of the house and carrier upstairs. No nothing about heat pumps since Florida is so warm. Concerned that not operating correctly or settings are incorrect as the systems seem to never shut off.

heatpumps are great around 50 degs and above. as temps drop they get less effecient. when you hit 38 deg the absorption rate is very low.
reason for 2.5 ton units on such a big house is you have low cooling load and don't need much, you would need about 2 4 ton units for heating that much area at nc temps, I own a house in nc also and live in florida. I use gas for heat and do not even have ac at cabin yet. one day I will put one int but it will be 2 ton ac and gas heat. Also better consider backup generator there also!! Wood heater is nice also! don't have to have power to stay warm with wood heater.
