Heat Pump Oil

I have two heat pumps that were stolen and recovered but I know oil spilled out of one of them, how do you determine how much oil needs to be added during re-installation? Will most HVAC contractors know how to do this or is there specific instructions that I need to provide?

Heat Pump Oil

Only way is to remove the compressor, and poor out the oil and measure how much is left.

Heat Pump Oil

I have a refrigeration oil pump that I use to remove contaminated oil from refrigeration systems. No reason it can't be used on a heat pump.

Just ask the guys if they have an oil pump to remove remaining oil and measure it against the factory oil charge.

pouring it out is fine, just not as accurate.
