Heat Pump Fan Has Stopped Working

Hi All,

I've got a Rheem heat pump outside and the fan recently stopped working. I was able to spin it with a screwdriver and it started working each time i did that, but apparently my luck has run out. When you try to spin it now, it is sort of hard to turn, and it doesn't start up.

I suspect i'm in for a fan motor? If that's the case, does anyone know a good place to order from, and what should i do with the heat pump until i get it? It's been in the 20s here in Florida.

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry you having a problem Steve.

You can copy the model and seial # fm the unit or take out the fan and Google the model and serial number. You can pick one up for a bout $200.
Some places more and some places less.

The run capacitor should be replaced too. In fact take the old run cap out and take to a local hvac or motor shop to test it. If it
s bad you might only need the cap. But don't get your hopes up.
Cap cost about $60 (again depends where you buy it.-

Motor was shot, cap was good. Found a relatively local mom and pop shop that had the new fan for $165. Glad i took a picture of the wires before i took them off.

Thanks everyone.
