heat pump / ac unit vs electric furnace

I live in Montreal. I already have an electric furnace and want to get central air. Should I opt for the heat pump instead of just central air unit? Will it really save me money in thee long run?

Yes. The heat pump will cost 3-4 times less to run then electric elements when it's over 40F out. When it drops down to twenty the HP will still be half the cost to run as the elements. When it gets in the single digits the HP and elements will run at the same time so it's still cheaper then straight electric heat.

The difference between using a HP and straight electric heat in Dec and Jan. here is about $200 a month. Heat pumps don't cost too much more then AC and will save enough to pay for difference in one heating season. The rest of its life is money in the bank.

They are last I knew. Not producing units anymore, and some distributors are not selling the ones they have in stock. Due to the company not being on sound ground again.
