Heat Pump

I have a heat pump for heating my home. I've noticed that when it gets cold outside, 40 degrees F and below, the heat pump runs almost continuously and produces little heat. What is a reasonable outside temperature for my heat pump to produce enough heat for my home without the use of heat strips?

You would have to calculate the heat loss on the home and compair to the Heat pump ratings. There is no set temp. My home is around 25-30 deg before backup starts kicking in a little.

Heat Pump

Varies with the home and heat pump.

Some 40, others 20.

Heat Pump

Mine is around 22-25F outside before it just cannot keep up anymore and then the $$$$ backup electric heat kicks in.
