heat pump

Can I put a new 13 Seer heat pump with a 14 yr old air handler

You can put a r-22 heat pump with one but why would you? The r-22 dry ship unit are more expensive and then you have the cost of refrigerant. The AHU is a pretty inexpensive part considering you will get the full manufacturer warranty with the AHU and not with just the outdoor.

Some people do but it's a terrible idea. Heat pumps are pretty touchy about having the correct coil. Not only that but you'll have a 1 year warranty instead of 10.
