Heat pipe in wall banging noises?
Steam heat, why is the pipe going from the basement to the 2nd floor making a banging noise? Never did this before, just started this week.

Water and steam are colliding with each other.

What can be done?

try wrapping the pipe with insulation. The problem is steam is cooling and condecing too soon and draining back.

All pipes in the basement are wrap up with that pipe insulation.

Since it just started happening.
Have you changed anything at all.
Removed insulation from any pipes.
Remodeled the basement. Or changed anything in the basement.
Is it a single or 2 pipe system.

Thanks, the only thing I am renovating the basement and the ceilings are closed now. The main 2 inc pipe is insulated, only one pipe is doing the knocking, I am going to see which radiator it feeds and make sure the radiator is on a slant towards the pipe. It's a one pipe system.

Are you sure, you didn't accidentally raise a pipe while if you redid the ceiling.

Check your air vents.

Also, hopefully, you didn't enclose a main vent.
