Ok guys. I have a two story home, over 2500 sq. ft. I heat with propane, hot water baseboard with two zones, one upstairs the other down. Should I be setting my thermostats at different settings, upstairs vs. downstairs. My husband thinks they should be set at the same setting so all the downstairs heat will not rise?? I am confused..please help..ALso I think I need some insulation in the attic as my upstairs does not stay warm..Thank you....

Set them to the temperature you want the zone to be.
Heats gonna rise regardless of what they are set to. Setting them the same won't stop it.

Insulation is the most cost effective way of making your home comfortable and less expensive to heat/cool so if you need more add it.

Thank you Jogr! So it will be ok to set my upstairs lower since I am not upstairs that much during the day?

I have a three yr. old home but lets just say I do not trust the previous owner who built the home. I do not have an attic nor a crawl space so I am going to cut out a section in a closet and see what is up there for insulation. Thanks again..

Having no attic can certainly complicate adding insulation. Or maybe you just don't have an attic access panel? Do you have a flat ceiling upstairs or vaulted? Looking at the roof from outside is it flat or is it sloped? If sloped about how much higher is the peak of the roof compared to the height of the roof where it crosses over the exterior wall?
