Question

He put in a Horizontal Kitchen Vent Fan

My husband and I moved our kitchen. We needed to vent our stove so my husband bought a vent fan at HD for about $70. He says it's 60 or 600 square feet per min. He doesn't know which. He said the fan was made to go vertically but he cut a hole and stuck it in horizontally above the stove.

When we cook, I'm not convinced it even draws half of the smoke/steam out of the house and it lets in a ton of cold air.

Right now we have a beautiful piece of card board cut out of a pizza box to cover the fan when we are not using it.

He says it will be fine when he covers the hole on the outside of the house with a vent cover. Hummm are we missing something here. Should we have gotten a hood?

That is so guy to do something like that.

If it said Vertical it means VERTICAL. Not side ways. the fan does not produce enough HP to vent side ways.

And since it is vertical vent designed it probably requires a duct also.
