Goodman Gpnu series, flame roll out

two family 3 story row house, 1 on the first 2 on the second and third.
1st 54k goodman 90% exhaust tube only
2nd 100K goodman 90% exhaust tube only

Help me out, I just at a loss. This is and intermittent problem I have found due to having to replace a flame sensor and stack sensor. Things I have checked, inducer working properly, vapor trap drain cleaned, corrected angle of the exhaust tube and checked for proper draining, no dips, no constrictions. All the furnace systems seem to be working properly now although the installation is a issue very poor and poorly mantained, None performed no air filters installed although the burner assembly is relatively clean with signs the role out has been going on for a while. With it being intermitant the system restarts itself and most of the time runs normal. During the installation the installer left both air returns open to the basement. Obviously this needs to be corrected imediately. Even with the doors open to the upstairs could this cause enough vacum when the larger furnace is running. Also this is and old frame house with no fire stops and a lot of open space, could the chiminey effect be part of thise. It does seem like the house is sucking air into the basement.

One more, should I try cycling it a number of times with the exhaust off the outside vent at the furnace to see if it stops. Yes I know not for long carbon monoxide.

Thanks

Open up the supply plenum/plenums. And look for cracks or holes from burning through from over heating.

other than a visual inspection running and not running, I have on inspected from front side 8 out of 10 times it starts fine and runs normal, is there any other indication I can look into before removing the plenum. On this furnace it not going to be and east task with out complete removal. Is this unit prone to this, 54K 90 gpnu, up flow burners on the top.

Do you think any of what I described could be the cause.

Could be.
But if the basement door is open. Probably not.

May not be easy. But a visual inspection of the heat exchanger is the best thing to do. Plenums are sometimes no fun. But explaining why someone died of CO posioning will be les fun.
