Goodman Furnace does not kick in

Can somebody help or give me an idea why the Goodman Furnace (model GMNT 80-4, high efficiency condensing gas furnace) does not kick in when the drain pipe is connected? I have the furnace drain pipe connected to the drain in my basement. But when I removed the furnace drain pipe, the furnace works fine. Right I have to use the bucket to hold the drain water and have to empty it once a day. It is half bucket full everyday. It worked fine for past couple of years until a week ago the furnace stopped kicking in. I changed the thermostat and it did not help. thanks.....
