Goodman CK36-18 problem

Hi guys,

I have a Goodman CK36-18 AC that was working fine until this afternoon. The outside unit appears to be working properly but the blower inside that pulls the indoor air through the filter is not working. Any thoughts of what I should check? Thank you

Are you sure the fan isn't working, or is it just iced up? A freeze up can cause complete blockage of the duct system, which results in no air flow.

If you can get to the air handler, take the panels off to see if the blower is running (be sure the tstat is set to call for cooling, or just turn the Fan switch to ON). Be careful in the air handler - there's high voltage and moving parts, so don't poke around in there.

If the blower is running, then do you see any ice? If so, turn the system to OFF, and the fan to ON, and leave it that way for a few hours. If the filter is dirty, change that.

Otherwise, you'll need to call someone out to diagnose the issue.

Thanks Scott,

The fan's not running and there is no ice. I guess that narrows it down to the fan or circuit board then, right?

In most cases, yes - the fan or the fan control board/relay is bad. I've seen thermostats do this too. To eliminate that, jump R to G at the thermostat. If the fan comes on then, your stat is bad. If not, then I'd bet either fan/capacitor or board.

Thanks Scott

The Cap is supposed to be 12.5uf and is reading almost 0. I'll replace it and keep my fingers crossed! Thanks again!
