When the thermostat calls for heat the boiler goes on. However, the pressure gauge doesn't budge, and the boiler will stay on until it uses up all the water, then the low water switch turns it off. I am worried that the boiler can overheat, and I am wondering if the pressure control could be faulty or the RETARD gauge faulty Right now I manually turn the thermostat up and then turn it down to 60 degrees after 10 minutes and I feel some heat coming through the radiators
If the boiler is cutting out on the low water cutoff then the fill valve is not working. Some of them are combination low water cutoff/fill valve and they need to have the sludge blown out/down regularly AND a yearly checkup/cleaning of that control by a pro who understands/services steam boilers. Get it done properly ASAP or you may have a bomb on your hands next time.
