Gas Furnace loud during ignition

Hello,

We have a Coleman Evcon gas furnace that is pretty loud during ignition. It has a hot surface ignitor. As it lights, the sound of the gas igniting is a pretty loud whoosh, louder than it was a couple of years ago. Seems louder than makes sense. I have read that the burners may need to be cleaned. Can I just take the two tubes off the end and clean them, or should other things be cleaned?

Thanks...

You can remove them and clean the carbon buildup gently from the ends with a bristle brush/toothbrush. Then rinse them in hot running water/dry and reinstall them. There are small crossover slots which may need gentle cleaning also.

Just remove the two funnel shaped pieces? Is there anything about the supply tube that I should also get with the toothbrush?

No. Usually you can remove those hold down screws on the burner and slide them forward. BE CAREFULL not to hit and break the igniter.

Gas Furnace loud during ignition

Update: I have tried this a few times, and it is still as loud as ever...not every time, but about 1/2 the time. When the gas ignites, it does with a rather loud whoosh as the gas ignites. Trying to think if it is something about the rectangular module that has the switch that looks like a small valve in it.

Had a furnace guy come out last year and he did not really do anything, other than adjusting that little lever a bit, which I think regulates the flow of gas.

I am thinking that somehow that whole thing needs to be replaced, if it is it, but not sure that is safe/possible to get someone to do?

Anyone ever replace that part of a furnace, outside of just replacing the whole furnace?

Just a thought... maybe the ignitor is heating up a little slow or is a little weak? If so maybe the whoosh is caused by a little bit more gas getting out before ignition actually happens.
