gas fireplce only half lights

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in,so I did it in appliances also. One of my friends called and said only half of the fire place had flames. He asked if he should turn the pilot up.I'm not sure how he was going to do that, but I suggested not to,that it must be some kind of blockage in the stove since half the stove was being fed with gas.I haven't seen it he could mean it has two pilots and only one is lit.Any clues would be appreciated.

Is this a stove or a fireplace?

Either there is a blockage or the pilot light is out of alignment with the burners.
